Civic Literacies Laboratory
The Civic Literacies Laboratory explores how to foster meaningful civic engagement by connecting participants, especially K–12 and college students, with the history of governance, legislation, and democratic action in the United States. Rather than prescribing a fixed notion of civic duty, we invite learners to define civic participation on their own terms, using historical case studies as a lens for reflection and discovery. By grounding contemporary questions in historical understanding, we aim to inspire informed, thoughtful, and personally resonant forms of civic involvement that grow from students' lived experiences, local contexts, and developing sense of agency.
